Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 4 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 large onion, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Toss in beef strips and marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté sliced onions until soft and slightly caramelized; season with salt and pepper.
  3. In the same pan over high heat, add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and sear the marinated beef strips for about 2-3 minutes until browned but juicy.
  4. Whisk together remaining soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch in a small bowl. Pour this mixture over the beef and let it simmer until thickened.
  5. Add sautéed onions back into the pan and combine well before serving hot over steamed rice or noodles.
