- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for almond topping)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Prepare the dough by combining flour and salt in a mixing bowl. Dissolve yeast in warm water until foamy.
- In a saucepan, warm milk, sugar, and butter until smooth. Combine with flour mixture and add yeast, eggs, vanilla extract, and lemon zest.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl to rise for one hour.
- While rising, prepare the almond topping by melting butter, then stirring in honey and cream before adding sliced almonds.
- After dough has risen, punch down and pour into a greased pan; spread almond mixture on top.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool.
- Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar, slice cake horizontally, fill with whipped cream, and chill before serving.
